Welcome

Welcome from Jeanette Richards, Executive Director of Children and Young People

Welcome and thank you for your interest in the role of Director of Social Care Practice here in Bury.

This is an exciting time to join Children’s Services in Bury and a real opportunity to drive the transformation of our services and improve the lives of our young people and their families.

We need an experienced social care leader with a passion for people to join our Children’s leadership team as Director of Social Care Practice reporting directly to me. You’ll have a strong track record of leading impactful teams and projects in children’s social care and you’ll understand the importance of working in line with standards and regulation, whilst pushing for meaningful change. We’ll give you every opportunity to learn and grow as a future DCS and deliver impactful change to the lives of Bury people.

Bury is an innovative place with mature and developed partnerships that are committed to delivering integrated public services which enable social workers to meet the needs of our children and families. - To learn more about our service, please watch our video.

Following the Ofsted inspection of 2021,we have moved openly and swiftly to acknowledge the key areas for improvement across our Services, we have taken immediate action to increase capacity and strengthen our frontline services for children and young people, with an unrelenting focus upon doing the basics well, but our vision and aspiration for improved children’s outcomes requires a comprehensive transformation of our services to achieve the long term and sustainable change of service delivery that our community deserve.

We recognise that embedding sustainable transformation will require a strategic approach, working with partners and local communities, and with the voice of children and young people informing and influencing the way we work together to achieve our shared priorities.

Our Strategic Improvement Plan sets out the first stage of our improvement journey and establishes the foundation pathway to achieving deep and sustained positive change that will result in consistently good services that deliver improved outcomes for children, in the context of our overarching ‘Let’s Do It’ vision for Bury.

More broadly, there is a real vibrancy around Bury’s future aspirations as a Council and as part of the wider Greater Manchester agenda and this role is an opportunity for you to be at the heart of this. We’re truly ambitious about building on our success to date to make opportunities for our communities as well as a great place to live and work. I look forward to receiving an application from you.
