Welcome and thank you for your interest in the role of Director of Law and Democratic Services. This is a key leadership opportunity for an experienced solicitor to work in an exciting Borough, as part of a new leadership team and in partnership with the local Clinical Commissioning Group.
In Bury we are out to community consultation on our new 10-year vision “Let’s do it” ; we have developed a joint Corporate Plan with NHS Bury CCG and have just completed an internal governance review and a refreshed Council Constitution. We want your help to make these strategies a reality by leading 21st Century governance through the quality of your personal advice; the development of the team and excellent policies and compliance models.
There is a real vibrancy around the council’s future aspirations for Bury and its place in the wider Greater Manchester agenda. This role is an opportunity for you to be a part of this at an exciting time of transformation.
Reporting directly to me, you will be part of our strategic leadership team and will have a key role in collaborating with the wider team, Elected Members, local leadership in health and other stakeholders to shape the future vision and direction of the Council.
Working together we can deliver on making sure that every Bury’s legal and democratic services are high performing and supportive of the corporate working that is evident across the council.

The Role - Director of Law and Democratic Services

Bury Council has recently benefited from developing a new senior leadership team that is setting the pace and the vision for the future for the benefit of all who live, work, learn and relax in the borough. For Legal and Democratic Services, it means a journey to be outstanding. To do that we need stand out leadership – that’s where you come in.
We are preparing for the launch of our new 10-year plan Let’s do it which sets out our ambition, a key part of which is using democratic functions to amplify community voice. We have also set out our joint Corporate Plan with Bury CCG, which sets out some of the work to do in governance, policy and compliance.
This is a corporate role, so we want our leader in Legal and Democratic Services to be able to contribute as widely as possible, in particular to establish the Corporate Core across the Council and CCG; to drive good governance in partnership with finance and develop our joint leadership and decision making with health.
